Module · questions

Common questions

Who will we be talking to?

Highly qualified physicians and sports medicine specialists on SportMed Connect’s own staff. We are not an outsourced call center or a chatbot. Your call comes straight to our team, and every injury is handled case by case by the right person for it.

Can they actually treat my player?

Yes, and this is the most important part. Your specialist assesses what is going on and works out what your player needs. They can write prescriptions, order X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans, and provide return-to-play clearance for the coach. Then our team walks you through recovery and checks in along the way until your player is back on the court. It is not a one and done call.

Who is covered?

Every AYG player and coach. Parents call or text on their player’s behalf; siblings and parents are not covered as patients.

Is this insurance? Do we need our insurance card?

No to both. Every AYG player already has SportMed Connect through the club’s partnership, so there is nothing to pay when you call. Just call. If your player needs imaging, an in-person visit with a specialist, or a procedure, that goes through your own insurance as usual. We help you find the right provider, in your network if you prefer, and arrange the care the way you want it handled.

Will we need an in-person appointment?

Usually not. Most sports injuries can be handled by talking directly with our physicians and specialists, and 80% get back to play with no trip to the doctor’s office. When an injury does need imaging, a procedure, or an in-person visit, we refer you to a trusted physician, help set it up, and stay with you through recovery.

We already have a trainer or doctor. Does this replace them?

No. We work alongside them, not in place of them. We help your family get care faster, and when your athlete does need to see their own doctor or trainer, we share what we found so everyone works from the same plan.

What if we’re at an out-of-town tournament?

This is exactly what SportMed Connect is built for. When you are away from your usual doctors, call anyway. The line works 24/7, anywhere in the country.

Can we call about something that isn’t an injury?

Yes. If you are wondering whether to call, call. It does not matter whether it happened at practice, in another sport, or at home. Questions about nutrition, fueling, strength and conditioning, or performance are welcome too.

Is help available in Spanish or other languages?

Yes. Translation services are available, so families and athletes can get care in the language they are most comfortable with.
